HOW TO CHOOSE A CUSTOM SPORTSWEAR MANUFACTURER

Choosing a custom sportswear manufacturer is less about finding the loudest website and more about finding a factory that can hold a specification from sample to carton.

Write a brief before you browse websites

Most failed first orders begin with a vague message: “I need jerseys, good quality, low MOQ.” A usable brief names the sport, the garment list, a target fabric family, decoration method, size range and destination country. It also says whether you need private label trims or only a club kit in bags.

When you write that brief first, every conversation becomes comparable. You will notice quickly which desks ask about GSM and measurement points, and which desks reply with a price and a stock photo. Abijah Sports is built for the first kind of conversation. If you are still shaping the assortment, start with a quote inquiry that lists three SKUs, not thirty.

Include constraints. A school athletic department may need a specific number height. A gym brand may need opacity in light-coloured leggings. A distributor may need carton marks that match a warehouse scanner. Those constraints belong in the first week, not after sewing starts.

Ask for proof that matches your product

A manufacturer that is excellent at soccer sublimation is not automatically excellent at varsity jackets. Ask for samples or detailed construction photos in the category you intend to buy. Look at seam types, elastic quality, print registration at side seams and how a size label is attached.

Be cautious with certificate walls. This site does not display ISO, WRAP or SEDEX marks because we will not show files we cannot produce. You should apply the same rule to any supplier: ask for current documents if a market requires them, and read the scope. A certificate on a different legal entity is not your factory’s certificate.

Artwork handling is another proof point. If a supplier cannot place a crest correctly on a mockup, they will not place it correctly on a panel. Our artwork service exists because that step is manufacturing, not decoration.

Judge the development path, not the slogan

A professional path looks like this: specification, sample, written approval, bulk, inspection, pack, ship. Shortcuts skip the written approval. That is how a bulk colour drifts from the JPEG you thought you agreed.

Ask how revisions are handled. Ask what happens if a fabric mill substitutes a roll. Ask whether measurement tolerances are written. You do not need a 40-page quality manual on day one, but you do need someone who can answer those questions without changing the subject to “we are the leading company.”

Lead times and MOQs should be quoted for your actual program. Contact the team for the current schedule rather than trusting a number copied from another website. We follow that rule on our FAQ page for a reason.

How to work with a Sialkot factory desk

Sialkot is a dense cluster. That density is an advantage if your partner can control subcontracted steps. Ask which processes happen in-house and which are coordinated. Sublimation, embroidery and sewing may sit in different rooms or different workshops; the issue is whether one desk owns the result.

Communication should stay on one channel with files named by style and date. WhatsApp is fast; it is also where decisions get lost. Follow important approvals with a short written summary. Abijah Sports uses WhatsApp at +92 331 4615573 because buyers want speed, and we still keep the spec on a sheet.

Freight is part of the manufacturer conversation even when you use your own forwarder. Packing lists, carton dimensions and whether garments are folded for retail or for a kit bag change both cost and damage risk. See labels and packaging.

Signals that should slow you down

Prices with no fabric named. Samples that look nothing like the bulk photo. Pressure to wire a full balance before any sample. A catalogue that also sells surgical instruments and leather belts as if they were the same factory. Abijah Sports stays on sportswear for that reason: focus is a quality control method.

Another signal is copied competitor content. If a site still carries another company’s product codes or phone numbers, assume the operations story is equally borrowed. Your due diligence should include a call, a sample, and a spec you would be willing to show a customer.

If you want a structured next step, read private label manufacturing explained or why buyers source from Sialkot, then send the brief.

What to put in a first message that gets a useful reply

A manufacturer can only quote what you describe. If you write “basketball uniforms, good quality,” you will receive a number that belongs to an imaginary garment. If you write “men’s basketball jersey and short, polyester bird eye, full sublimation, adult S–XXL, estimated 40 sets, destination United Kingdom, private label neck labels required,” you will receive a worksheet you can compare with a second factory.

Attach a photo of a garment you already like, even if you cannot send the physical piece yet. Photos do not replace a sample, but they stop the first conversation from becoming a debate about adjectives. Name the sport in the subject line so the desk does not open your file as a hoodie inquiry when you need a hockey jersey.

Ask one process question that reveals how they work: “What do you need from me before you cut a sample?” A serious desk answers with a list. A weak desk answers with a price and a promise.

How to read a sample without fooling yourself

Wash the sample the way your customer will wash it, not the way a lookbook photographer would. Measure it before and after. Look at print registration where a side seam meets a graphic. Look at the inside: loose threads, raw elastic ends, a size label that is already peeling. Stretch a compression piece and see whether it returns. Hold a white short up to a window.

Then write three sentences: what matched the brief, what did not, and what you will accept as a revision. Send those sentences back. Factories improve when the feedback is specific. They stall when the feedback is “make it more premium.”

If you are comparing two samples, compare them on the same body or the same dress form, in the same light. Do not compare a photographed sample on a website with a garment in your hand and call that a fair test.

Commercial terms that belong on paper

Payment stages, what the sample fee covers, who pays for a rejected bulk lot, and how a shortage is handled should be written before money moves. This website does not publish those commercial terms because they belong on an order confirmation, not in a blog post that pretends every buyer has the same deal.

Incoterms matter when you are not standing at the factory gate. If you do not know whether you are buying goods at the factory door or delivered to a port, you do not know your real cost. Ask the question plainly. A Sialkot manufacturer used to export will understand it.

Abijah Sports is set up for that kind of conversation. Use the contact page or WhatsApp once the brief exists. If you are still choosing a category, start on collections and return with a shorter list.

Questions

Unit price without a locked spec is not a comparison. Fabric, stitch, decoration and packing change the number. Compare complete worksheets.

It helps, but a sampled garment you can wash and measure is stronger evidence than a walkthrough.

Two is enough for most first programs if both can work from the same brief. More than that usually means the brief is still vague.
